Lady Liberty is a hippie

Lady Liberty is a hippie

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Sunday said that America “can’t invite the whole world” to enter the country, no matter how much some immigrants may love the U.S.

Speaking on ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” Paul said that when lawmakers focus only on the reasons immigrants enter the U.S. illegally, it makes “people think, ‘Well, because they’re doing this for kind reasons,’ that the whole world can come to our country.”

So true.

I think we probably need to do something about this, though.

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Maybe it’s time to rip that old statue down and put it in a museum somewhere.
