Rudy on the make and it’s all just a-ok

According to the New York Times:

“His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa today at the Safriya Palace received former mayor of New York City, Rudy Giuliani, leading a high-level delegation,” read Bahrain News Agency’s brief write up of Giuliani’s photo-op with the King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. “HM the King praised the longstanding Bahraini-US relations, noting keenness of the two countries to constantly develop them. Topics of joint interests were also discussed.”

Giuliani also met with Bahrain’s interior minister. But don’t worry, he says he was just there pursuing a big money contracts and claims he assured everyone that he wasn’t representing the US. He says he tells all his clients that he won’t lobby for them so this sort of thing is no biggie.

“I’m probably the most ethical person you ever met,” Giuliani told the Times. “I follow all the rules. I have no desire to trade on anything. I can guarantee you, whether they think the picture is valuable, there is nothing I’m going to do to help them other than what they pay me for.”

Well, ok then. That’s good enough for me. If the president’s personal lawyer who is defending him in a high level case of possible conspiracy with a foreign nation is overseas drumming up money in the middle east for his personal side business says there’s nothing to see here, there’s nothing to see here.

Sometimes I feel as if the Trump administration and his cronies are working with the FSB on a very sophisticated campaign to drive us all insane.  It’s impossible to deal with people who simply don’t give a damn about appearing to be criminals in front of the whole world and say, “you can believe me or you can believe your lying eyes.”

They don’t care. In fact, I think it’s a feature not a bug. When someone gets up in your face and dares you to take a swing, a sane person often backs away because it’s just not worth it. They are testing the willingness of the American people to put up with this by just blatantly throwing all caution to the wind and saying “go ahead, try to stop me.”

So far it’s working. Our democratic processes are under siege and the slowness of the legal system is working for them. Maybe they’ll get their comeuppance in the end, I don’t know. Some people, like Michael Cohen are paying a price. But will the big players? The enablers? That remains to be seen.

I can easily see a Democratic administration once again saying “we don’t want to look in the rearview mirror” because it’s easier to do that and they will legitimately have a huge mess to clean up. But these Republicans and their big money buddies just keep getting worse and worse every time they gain power and at some point there will be no going back.
