That coat

That coat

Glamour Magazine reports on the social media frenzy over Nancy Pelosi’s coat earlier this week. It’s not every day that a woman in her 70s inspires a fashion trend:

The Times was also one of the first to correctly identify the maker of the coat: Max Mara. This wasn’t fresh-off-the-runway, just-hit-stores Max Mara, though—Pelosi’s burnt-red style dates back to 2013. In order to authentically get the House Minority look, you’d have to dig deep into the resale market, scouring the eBay’s, Tradesy’s, and TheRealReal’s of the world to buy the Glamis coat.

Except that late Wednesday afternoon, the Italian fashion house sent out a press release that not only confirmed the origins of Pelosi’s coat but also announced that Max Mara would be reinstating the Glamis into its outerwear collection in 2019. “In a variety of colorways,” no less! A spokesperson for the brand confirmed to Glamour that the decision to bring it back was inspired by Pelosi.

Not that it has anything to do with anything, but Pelosi has fabulous taste in clothes. (FWIW, so does Melania when she isn’t inexplicably dressing in costume.) Rich ladies have a leg up, of course because they can afford the best.

But that’s no guarantee. I mean:

It takes taste more than money. For instance:

(Of course she’s excoriated for dressing well since according to right wingers unless a democratic socialist is dressed in denim overalls and a kerchief, she’s a hypocrite. Which is funny, since they are all shameless hypocrites about everything.)

Anyway, Nancy’s sunglasses are fabulous too, as was her ability to use them to throw shade on the White House:

Speaking of which, Melania has a new look. I think it’s a little Real Housewifey. But maybe she just needed a change. Since she can’t divorce Donald, this will have to do.

By the way, her approval rating is falling into The Donald territory:

Melania Trump’s favorable rating has fallen by double-digits, according to a new CNN poll. The first lady, whose favorability stood at 54% in October, has slipped to 43% in just two months.

Additionally, 36% of those polled found her unfavorable, a 6-point increase since October.

I’d guess this is because she’s been asserting herself in the White House so she’s losing some right-wing support and more mainstream types are seeing that she isn’t as apolitical as they thought.
